Iraq floats reparations claim

BAGHDAD, Dec 23 (South News) A leading Iraqi daily demanded on Wednesday that Britain and the United States pay for the loss of life and the damage wreaked on the country during the four day surprise attack.

"The United States and Britain are entirely responsible for the aggression and the Security Council is urged to bring them to account, to condemn them and demand compensation for human and material losses," wrote Al-Thawra, the ruling Baath party newspaper.

"The Security Council must also demand that Washington and London no longer provokes Iraq or acts unilaterally," it said.

Al-Thawra also questioned the role of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan during the air bombardment, which ended overnight Saturday after Britain and the United States announced their goals had been met.
