Vatican blasts Iraq attack as "aggression"

VATICAN CITY, Dec 17 (South News) - The Vatican on Thursday condemned the U.S.-led air strikes against Iraq as ``aggression'' and said it hoped that international order would be re-established soon.

``The Holy See hopes that this aggression will end as soon as possible and that international order is restored,'' chief Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls told reporters, reading a statement.

On Thursday morning,the Pope spoke of his concern for peace in the Middle East in an address to a group of new ambassadors to the Holy See. A Vatican source said the section was added to the speech after the Vatican received news of the air strikes during the night.
